Research Resources at the UPR Medical Sciences Campus highlighted at "Puerto Rico STEM's Up to the Challenge"

The RCMI Program and the BioMed Innovation Laboratory were invited to participate in the “PR STEM’s Up to the Challenge” (PRSUC) activity held at the PR Conventions Center on March 3-4, 2015.  The objective of the activity, organized by G-Works, a non-for-profit educational organization, and sponsored by Amgen, was to expose high school students to the academic programs and resources available in the areas of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Puerto Rico.  The event included interactive discussions with professionals of the different STEM programs in the island, examples of advanced technologies including robotics, 3D printers, rockets, and solar telescopes, as well as workshops for school counsellors and science teachers.  The exhibit of the RCMI Program highlighted biomedical applications of 3D printing, and educational materials to promote biomedical research careers developed through the Biomedical Research Education Program (BREP).  Students who visited the exhibit received books of the Biomed Battle Team series featuring biomedical research activities at the UPR Medical Sciences Campus.  Approximately, 1,000 students and 100 school counsellors participated in this successful event.
