BREP, the SEPA program at the University of Puerto Rico-Medical Sciences Campus, participates in the National Day of Diabetes

The United Nations declared Friday, November 14th as the National Day of Diabetes Worldwide. BREP, the SEPA program at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, joined the Foundation for Pediatric Diabetes in a community outreach activity held in Central Park, San Juan. In this educational activity, BREP's booth had over 300 visitors at which we were able to distribute 220 copies of the comic book "Diabetes Danger". The Program was represented by Education Coordinator, Ms. Odalis García. BREP thanks the Foundation for Pediatric Diabetes for the opportunity of participating in such an important event.

The need for community outreach and the participation of educational programs like the SEPA program becomes even more relevant since according to the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report of October 31, 2008, Puerto Rico registered the highest increase in new cases of diabetes (12.8/1,000) in the nation.
