Mr. Felipe N. Padilla, BREP's Director of Research Education, was invited to participate in the Department of Education, Vega Baja District, Science Fair 2004. Students from 12 schools in the district ranging from Elementary to High School participated in the Science Fair. More than 30 projects were presented in the areas of Microbiology, Zoology, Environmental Sciences, Engineering and other science branches. Students presented their work to at least three judges who evaluated their work based on creativity, scientific method, quality and presentation. The students also defended their studies and answered questions by the judges.
The award presentation was held at the Lino Padrón Rivera High School's Theater. All students received certificates of participation. Special awards, for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best presentations in each category, were also given to the students. Mr. Padilla addressed the participants and emphasized the need for students interested in a career in science and technology and the goals of the BREP program toward this end.
