The Biomedical Research Education Program (BREP) in collaboration with the Elohim School of Caguas, which has served as the beta site for activities developed by BREP, participated in the Health Fair held at Centro de Bellas Artes in Caguas during October 20-21, 2004. The Elohim School established an initiative in Science and Research as one of the principal components of their curriculum to promote the interest of students in the biomedical field.

Students of the school who are members of the BioMed Battle Team distributed information and pamphlets regarding the prevention and treatment of diabetes to attendees at the Health Fair. The exhibit included examples of biomedical laboratory equipment; literature regarding diabetes; microscopy photos and descriptions of different diseases that disproportionably affect the Puerto Rican population. Ms. Sambrana, Director of the Elohim School was impressed with the public's response. The students prepared materials and also served as guides during the health fair.
