The center is scientifically overseen, managed and guided by Dr. Abraham Schwartz. Dr. Schwartz has 40 years of entrepreneurial and business experience as the founder and president of for-profit and non-profit 501(c) (3) companies established in North Carolina and Puerto Rico. He is an Ad-Honorem Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology, School of Medicine, University of Puerto Rico (UPR) Medical Sciences Campus. The BioMedical Innovation Center, established in 2016, has successfully obtained two US patents, with four UPR undergraduate students listed as inventors. His role in the Center includes planning and monitoring the project's progress, assuring compliance with the project schedule, identifying limitations, developing alternative approaches as required, and directing the production of the required deliverables. His entrepreneurial experience includes, among others, being the founder and CEO of Intrinsic S&I, an LLC established in Puerto Rico; the Center for Quantitative Cytometry (CQC), a non-profit 501(c)3 located in North Carolina, and Caribbean MicroParticles Corporation, a Puerto Rican IRS 936 subsidiary of Flow Cytometry Standards Corp in North Carolina.
